One of the biggest TV shows of the ‘70s was The Waltons, a family drama set in rural Virginia during the Great Depression and World War II.. For seven-and-a-half seasons, actress Michael Learned starred as matriarch Olivia Walton, the model of an ideal parent.

During its nine year run on CBS, the program The Waltons are a close-knit, loving family living in rural Virginia during the Depression Era into the World War II years. While hard times and eventually the war affect the family deeply, they always manage to come together, support each other and share laughs no matter their circumstances. Even after 9 seasons The Waltons couldn't be stopped. In 1982, 3 made-for-TV movie specials were released that served almost as a 10th season of the show. The last three specials were released in 1993, 1995, and 1997.
